today-i am sick :(

it is autumn - the perfect time for sneezing and head colds and lying around in sweats all day drinking tea...which is exactly what today is for me and liam. actually after breakfast we decided to color with colored pencils. i learned that liam would much rather use 5 colored pencils at once rather than choose one. he's a complete goober and i love him.

within the past week, liam has become OBSESSED WITH TRAINS. he says "choo choo train" (although train usually ends up sounding more like ten but he gives it his best shot). so we've taken out some hand-me-down trains and plastic tracks and he has a grand ol' time. he has a train book (the story itself is actually quite lame) that he enjoys carrying around more than he likes actually reading it, which we have never done...we looked at the pictures once...lol.

we had a halloween party for the kids this past saturday and it was absolutely smashing! liam helped carve pumpkins in the afternoon. he did an excellent job scooping out all the seeds so that mommy and daddy could carve them and scare all the party kids with our amazing artistic carving abilities...lol. anyway, liam dressed as a bumblebee wearing all black under a plump bumbly middle with attached hood antenae. within ten minutes he realized his pants were a little big and instead of having to pull them up over and over again, liam - the resourceful, quick thinking child - simply pulled them off! so he became the naked baby bumblebee. he was the hit of the party and even greeted all the parents with a "hi!" as they arrived to pick up their children once it was all through. he would walk up to his now carved and glowing pumpkin and point to it, attempt saying pumpkin and then let everyone know that it was "hot...no touch". he certainly was proud of his teeny tiny jack-o-lantern. and after a good scare from aunt e in a frightening mask (which caused him to emit the more horrible ear-piercing scream that everyone came running from every corner of the house to see what happened), liam fell sound asleep (with no nightmares thankfully) after way to much excitement for a one year old in one day.

we are currently attempting to potty train but so far (in about 3 weeks total) he has only went pee pee in the potty one time and i'm pretty sure it was a complete coincidence. but we keep putting him on the big potty-which he enjoys-and we'll see what happens. one of these days when he pulls down his pants and climbs up on that stool to the potty he'll leave us a nice surprise...i can't wait to leave diapers behind.

other than that, we're all just trying to stay warm this winter. we're applying for heating assistance, chopping and stacking wood for the wood stove, and putting up plastic on the super-old windows. hopefully we'll be alright. it just makes me want to build an earthbag home with 2 1/2 foot thick walls to keep in the heat... perhaps that will be our housing solution in the future...yes, i'd like that very much. we'll have to invite everyone over if and when that dream of efficiency comes true...
